Nauvoo trip

Before Brenan left on his mission we took him to Nauvoo.  We went with our friends the Burtenshaws.  It was a great trip and we had an absolutely wonderful time.

Our hotel was 150 years old.  there were one inch gaps around the windows.  We were the only people in the whole hotel.  The workers weren't even there.  You checked in at the store then we went to our hotel.  Brenan was sure it was haunted.  You did hear strange things throughout the night but it was a great piece of history to get to stay in.
At the Waffle House in St. Louis before heading to Nauvoo

At an old cemetery about freezing to death.
 Our haunted hotel

Brenan texting in his comfy couch.  He said you could feel every spring.  I offered to get him his own room but after hearing the footsteps through the night he decided to stay in our room.
A play we went to that is put on by the elderly missionaries that are serving there.
At Carthage.  Brenan standing by Hyrum and Joseph

In the summer kitchen at Carthage.  I did not realize that Carthage jail was a house.  The jailers family lived in the jail.  They had 5 kids and they lived here the whole time.  There was a jail cell downstairs then the "dungeon" cell upstairs which had no windows, no ventilation, it would have been horrible there.

The families table.  Joseph and those with them were fed at the family table because the jailer liked them so much.

Brenan and I in the downstairs cell.  Joseph and those with him were allowed to stay in this cell until the mobs started coming around.  The jailer worried they would be shot through the window so he moved them upstairs to the "dungeon" cell.
The dungeon cell they figured it would have been over 120 degrees while Joseph was here.
The jailer felt bad for them so he gave them his very own bedroom on the second floor.  This is where Joseph and the other men stayed.
 The window Joseph fell through

The bullett hole that killed Hyrum.
Where Joseph would have fallen.  Carthage was a very humbling experience.  You definitely felt a spirit there.  It was probably one of the favorite stops for all of us because of the spirit which you felt there.

We then went to the Old Nauvoo cemetery to see if we could find any of our relatives there.  It was a beautiful place.  The headstones were so very old and a lot of them had decayed so much you couldn't tell who they were.

Sally Judd is a relative but we couldn't find her headstone.

We took the wagon ride, they explained a lot of the history.  While we were in Nauvoo it was about 20 degrees and the wind blew constantly.  It was so cold.  This is a friend of Dave's who is serving a mission there.  He was the guide for the wagon ride.

Brenan at the Browning house.  He enjoyed seeing all the guns.

 An old fashioned mouse trap

Brenan took this picture of Joseph and Hyrum with the Mississippi river in the background.  Quite the photographer.

We went and did a temple session.  It was a beautiful temple.  It was great getting to do another session with Brenan before he left.
Dave being a dork.  He only took a leather jacket and complained nonstop that he was going to freeze to death so we had to go find a farm store to buy him a carhart coat.
Where Hyrum, Joseph and Emma are buried.
In front of the mansion house.  The reorganized church owns it so we didn't go in because you have to do a long tour and we were running out of time.
In the red brick store that Joseph owned.  Dave makes a good old man.
Brenan sitting at the actual desk that Joseph used.  He snuck over the rope to sit there.
In the upstairs room of the store where the relief society was started and where the men used to meet and spit tobacco which gave us the Word of Wisdom
 Pretty cute
Brenan and me at the end of the trail of tears, the place where they had to cross the Mississippi hoping it was frozen through.

The ferry that would take people across the Mississippi and the three captains. haha
 Dave saluting.
 In the 70's hall.

It was a great opportunity to take Brenan.  Each of our testimonies grew and I am so glad we got to share this with Brenan.  The Burtenshaw's were fun as usual.
